CELESTIAL MEADS WINS AT MAZER CUP!
Celestial Meads recently won several awards at the Mazer Cup International Commercial Mead Competition held in Boulder, Colorado on April 17th & 18th, 2009. There were 12 categories and 132 total entries from North America and Europe. You can find out more about the competition here.
Gold - 'Southern Heat' in the Varietal category
- Southern Heat 10.0%ABV - $25.00 per 750ml - Vintages
A sweet traditional mead made with pure, raw tupelo honey from the swamps of northern Florida. Vanilla, persimmon, peach and nutmeg in the nose gives way to toasted oak, complex spice, soft fruit and caramelized pears on the palate. The alcohol and acidity balance the sweetness of this complicated mead.
Gold - 'Raizin d'Etre' in the Pyment category
- Raizin d'Etre 14.0%ABV - $34.00 per 750mll - Vintages
SPECIAL RESERVE - A full bodied pyment made with Blackberry blossom honey and Zinfandel grapes and aged on oak. The beautiful zinfandel grapes are complemented by the blackberry blossom honey. The oak adds a buttery complexity that makes this a truly fantastic mead.
Gold - 'Scheherazade' in the Other Mead category
- Scheherazade 12.0% ABV - $24.00 per 750ml - Vintages
A semi-sweet spiced melomel made with cardamom, sour cherries, plums and a hint of pomegranates. This wonderfully complex fruity mead is made even more delicious by the unique eucalyptus/lemon flavor and aroma of the cardomom. The acidity from the fruits perfectly balances the honey.
Bronze - 'Gingerly' in the Methyglyn category
- Gingerly 10.0% ABV - $24.00 per 750ml - Vintages
A sweet methyglyn made with whole fresh ginger and red currants. The ginger is bright and tickles your nose and tongue. The hint of red currants supports and enhances the ginger flavor without standing out. This is alively mead with an earthy finish. Goes well with sushi and Asian Fusion cuisine.
Bronze - 'Miel Noir' in the Berry Melomel category
- Miel Noir 10.0% ABV - $30.00 per 750ml -Vintages
A sweet melomel made with raw tupelo honey and hand-picked Alaskan black currants. A fruity, spicy nose with a touch of evergreen. The finish is refreshingly acidic and tannic. The complex spice and fruit of the tupelo honey combines with the exciting and earthy black currants to make a truly spectacular mead.
